The advice: check at least once a year — badly notified or unread deductions tend to surface too late. Expats with a converted licence: your Italian points account starts at 20 like everyone's.
In the first 3 years every deduction removes double the points, and the growth bonus is slower. A speeding offence costing an experienced driver 3 points costs a new driver 6. Combined with the 0.0 g/l alcohol rule, the Code's message is clear: the first three years are probation — all the rules here.
