The rules that catch visitors

Area C is a paid-entry ZTL: cameras log the plate, and you activate the €7.50 ticket (web, app, PagoPA) — forgetting to pay within the deadline converts a cheap ticket into an ~€83 fine per day of access. Area B needs no ticket but bans older emission classes on weekdays 7:30–19:30 — check your class before driving in, rental cars are typically fine. Electric vehicles enter Area C free; hybrids and specific classes have their own regimes that evolve — the comune's checker is the source of truth.

The smart strategy

The routine that works: leave the car at Lampugnano (M1) or Cascina Gobba (M2) for €2–3.20, be at the Duomo in 15–20 minutes, and let Area B/C remain someone else's problem.
