To ensure efficient traffic management and improve road safety, the law requires the installation of monitoring devices across the road network. These systems collect data on traffic, such as vehicle flow, speed, and congestion levels.
The collected data are used to update the national road archive and to identify areas with heavy traffic congestion. This allows authorities to take targeted measures, such as improving infrastructure or adjusting traffic management.
Road authorities, including the State, regions, and local entities, are required to install these devices. When necessary, they must also install systems to monitor noise and air pollution, in accordance with environmental guidelines.
If an authority fails to comply, the prefect can report it to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, which will set a deadline. If the authority still does not act, the Ministry may install the devices directly.
This rule ensures continuous monitoring of traffic and environmental impact, contributing to safer and more efficient road use.
