Work vehicles (such as construction machinery or heavy-duty vehicles) are subject to specific obligations because they cause increased wear on road infrastructure. To circulate, they must carry a special badge proving that a wear compensation fee has been paid.
This fee is equal to the vehicle ownership tax and is paid at the same time and for the same duration. It is intended to compensate for the additional damage caused to roads by heavy vehicles.
When these vehicles travel on motorways, they must pay an additional charge on top of the standard toll. Specifically, the motorway toll is increased by 50%, and this amount is paid together with the normal toll at the toll booth.
The revenue from this wear compensation fee is allocated to the State and then distributed to road authorities. It is used exclusively to cover costs related to strengthening, maintenance, and upgrading of road infrastructure affected by wear.
If a work vehicle circulates without the required badge, the driver is subject to an administrative fine. If the wear fee has not been paid, penalties also apply to the vehicle owner.
For the theory exam, it is important to remember that work vehicles must pay additional costs due to higher road wear and must always have the required authorization badge.
