When a person is convicted of a negligent crime related to traffic violations, the judge may impose community service in addition to the main penalty. This consists of unpaid work carried out for the benefit of the community, within public institutions or social and volunteer organizations.
This measure aims to make the offender more aware of their actions and their consequences, while contributing positively to society.
The duration of community service ranges from a minimum of one month to a maximum of six months. In case of repeat offenses, the minimum duration increases to three months.
The work is carried out in the province where the person lives and must be compatible with their daily life. For this reason, it usually does not exceed six hours per week, so it does not interfere with work, studies, family, or health. However, if requested, the judge may allow a higher number of hours.
In any case, the daily duration cannot exceed eight hours.
The specific rules for carrying out the work are established by law and managed by competent authorities.
If the person fails to comply with these obligations, additional legal consequences may apply.
