The State promotes road safety education starting from school, with the aim of forming responsible and aware road users. These programs are mandatory and are carried out in all schools, from early childhood education to high schools.
Students learn the basic rules of traffic, the meaning of road signs, and the correct behavior of drivers and other road users. Special attention is given to bicycle use as a sustainable and safe means of transport.
A key aspect is risk awareness. Students are educated about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other substances that affect physical and mental abilities.
These activities are organized by the Ministry of Education in cooperation with other ministries and specialized organizations such as the Automobile Club of Italy. Experts and police officers may also participate.
Training courses for teachers are provided to ensure effective and updated education.
The State also promotes annual road safety campaigns to raise awareness among the general population.
An important incentive is offered to high school students: by attending extracurricular road safety courses, they can receive a bonus of two points on their driving license upon issuance.
This rule highlights that road safety depends not only on laws and penalties but also on education and prevention.
