Temporary replacement of driving documents

When vehicle registration documents, a driving license, or other required documents are submitted to the relevant authorities for administrative reasons, such as updates or checks, the driver is not left without valid documentation. In these cases, the authority provides an extract of the original document, which has the same legal value and can be used in its place. This extract is valid for up to sixty days, allowing the driver to continue driving legally during this period.

There is also another situation where a temporary replacement document is issued. When documents are submitted to an authorized vehicle administration agency, the agency provides a receipt that temporarily replaces the original document or its extract. This receipt is valid for thirty days from the date of issue and allows the vehicle to be used, provided all conditions are met. Within this period, the agency must provide the final document or the official extract.

The receipt issued by the agency has strict limitations. It cannot be renewed or reused multiple times, and it must be properly issued and recorded on the same day in the agency’s register. This ensures that the replacement is strictly temporary and prevents misuse.

If an agency issues such receipts improperly or abusively, it faces administrative penalties. Repeated violations over time can lead to the loss of authorization to operate. Even minor irregularities in issuing receipts result in penalties.

Additionally, if the agency fails to provide the final document or extract within the required timeframe, further penalties apply. These rules ensure that driving and vehicle documents remain valid, controlled, and properly managed, even when temporarily replaced.
