Organizing, promoting, or participating in unauthorized speed races with motor vehicles is a serious criminal offense. It is not just an administrative violation but a crime punishable by imprisonment and very high fines. The same responsibility applies both to those who organize the race and to those who take part in it.
The consequences become even more severe if accidents occur during these competitions. If the race results in the death of one or more people, the penalties increase significantly. In cases of personal injury, the sanctions are also very serious and include longer prison sentences.
Penalties may be further increased if the race is organized for profit, to allow illegal betting, or if minors take part in it. Anyone who places bets on these illegal races is also subject to criminal penalties.
In addition to the main penalties, there are important additional consequences. The driving license is suspended for a long period and, in the most serious cases, it is permanently revoked. The vehicles used in the race may also be confiscated, unless they belong to someone not involved in the offense.
In all cases, when an illegal race is discovered, the authorities immediately prohibit the continuation of the event in order to protect public safety.
