Road traffic law establishes many situations where stopping and parking are prohibited in order to ensure safety, visibility, and smooth traffic flow. In general, stopping or parking is forbidden wherever it may create danger or obstruction.
Stopping and parking are prohibited near level crossings, on railway or tram tracks, and in their vicinity, as well as in tunnels, underpasses, and under structures such as bridges or arches. They are also prohibited on hilltops, in curves, and, outside built-up areas, even near them, due to reduced visibility.
It is not allowed to stop or park in a way that blocks road signs or traffic lights, nor near intersections. In built-up areas, at least 5 meters must be kept from intersections. Parking is also prohibited on pedestrian crossings, cycle paths, sidewalks, and in spaces reserved for specific categories of vehicles, such as buses, taxis, vehicles for disabled persons, or electric vehicles during charging.
Other important prohibitions include parking in front of driveways, double parking (except for two-wheeled vehicles), in lanes reserved for public transport, in pedestrian areas, and in restricted traffic zones without authorization. Parking is also forbidden in front of waste containers or near fuel stations during operating hours.
Special attention is given to spaces reserved for disabled persons and other protected categories, where violations result in higher penalties.
In built-up areas, it is prohibited to leave trailers parked if they are not attached to a towing vehicle, unless otherwise indicated.
During stopping or parking, the driver must take all necessary precautions to avoid accidents and prevent unauthorized use of the vehicle.
Penalties vary depending on the severity of the violation and the type of vehicle, and they may be applied for each day the violation continues.
