When agricultural machines travel on public roads as a combined unit of connected vehicles, the total length of the convoy must not exceed 18.75 meters. This limit exists to ensure safety, as longer combinations are more difficult to control, especially when turning or maneuvering. If, due to specific operational needs, the convoy exceeds this length, it may only circulate as an exceptional transport, meaning it requires special authorization and must follow stricter rules.
Agricultural tractors are allowed to tow only one agricultural trailer or a maximum of two agricultural working machines. However, these towed machines must be equipped with a braking system that is controlled directly by the tractor. This is essential to ensure that the entire convoy can slow down and stop together safely, preventing dangerous situations where the towed vehicles continue pushing forward.
There is an important restriction for tractors equipped with front-mounted implements. In such cases, it is forbidden to tow agricultural machines that do not have a braking system. Even if these machines are considered part of the tractor, the absence of brakes makes them unsafe, especially in emergency situations or on slopes.
Anyone who does not comply with these rules is subject to an administrative fine. This highlights the importance of respecting length limits and safety conditions when towing, as violations can create serious risks in road traffic.
