Infographic: Vehicle size limits

The size limits define the maximum dimensions a vehicle, including its load, can have to circulate on the road. These limits are set to ensure safety, prevent traffic obstruction, and protect road infrastructure.

In general, the maximum width allowed is 2.55 meters. Side mirrors are not included in this measurement if they are movable. The maximum height is 4 meters, but for buses and trolleybuses used in public transport on fixed routes, it can reach 4.30 meters. The maximum length for a single vehicle is 12 meters, including towing devices, while mirrors are excluded if they are movable.

Some vehicles may have additional structures, such as bike racks or luggage carriers mounted at the front or rear. Modern vehicles equipped with extended cabins or aerodynamic devices may slightly exceed the standard length, but only under specific safety conditions. These devices must not create danger and, in certain situations, must be folded or removed.

For vehicle combinations such as articulated vehicles and road trains, the maximum length is generally 18.75 meters. Some articulated buses used in public transport may reach 18 meters, and in dedicated rapid transit systems, they may reach up to 24 meters.

There are also exceptions for specific transport types. For example, vehicles transporting perishable goods under temperature control may have a maximum width of 2.60 meters.

If a vehicle exceeds the established size limits, it may circulate only if authorized as an exceptional transport and if it complies with specific regulations. Otherwise, circulation is prohibited and results in an administrative fine. The journey cannot continue until the issue is resolved.

For the theory exam, it is important to remember the key limits for width, height, and length, and understand that exceeding these limits is only allowed with special authorization.
