For new drivers, meaning within the first three years after obtaining a category B driving license, stricter rules apply in case of violations that lead to license suspension.
If such a violation is committed, the duration of the suspension is increased. For the first violation, the suspension period is increased by one third compared to the standard duration. For subsequent violations, the suspension period is doubled.
These stricter rules may also extend beyond the initial three years. If, during the first three years, the driver commits a serious violation that results in a suspension longer than three months, the stricter regime applies for the first five years after obtaining the license.
The same rules apply to drivers holding category A1, A2, or A licenses (motorcycles) if they do not yet hold a category B license. If they obtain a category B license later, the three-year (or five-year) period starts from that moment.
This rule aims to increase responsibility among new drivers, who are considered more at risk, by imposing stricter penalties to discourage dangerous behavior.
