All road users must follow the instructions given by traffic signs and traffic officers. This obligation applies to all types of signals, including vertical signs, road markings, traffic lights, and manual signals, and is one of the fundamental rules for ensuring safety and order on the road.
Instructions given by traffic officers are equally important and, in some cases, take priority over road signs. This means that when an officer gives an order, it must be followed even if it appears to differ from what is indicated by the signs.
Failure to comply with traffic signs or officers’ instructions results in an administrative penalty. However, some violations are considered more serious and may lead to higher or specific penalties as defined by other provisions of the law.
A particularly serious violation involves ignoring traffic lights or officers’ signals. If a driver continues driving when a red light or an officer requires them to stop, the offence carries a higher financial penalty.
If the same driver commits this violation at least twice within two years, in addition to the fine, their driving licence is suspended for a period of one to three months. This highlights how dangerous it is considered to ignore stop signals.
For the theory exam, it is essential to remember that traffic signs and officers’ instructions must always be obeyed, as they are crucial for road safety.
