Outside built-up areas, there are specific rules to ensure road safety and proper visibility. Owners of land located near roads must respect certain distances and restrictions.
It is not allowed to dig channels, ditches, or carry out excavations near the road, as these activities may affect ground stability and road safety. Similarly, it is forbidden to build new structures, extend existing buildings, or install fences too close to the road.
Vegetation is also regulated. Trees, hedges, or other plants cannot be placed near the road if they reduce visibility or create danger. These restrictions aim to maintain a safe distance between the road and surrounding elements.
The exact distances depend on the type of road and are defined by specific regulations. In certain situations, such as bridges, viaducts, or particular terrain conditions, exceptions may be allowed, but safety must always be guaranteed.
At road intersections, the rules are stricter. A clear visibility area must be maintained, free from obstacles, allowing drivers to see approaching vehicles from other directions. This area has a triangular shape and is essential to prevent accidents by helping drivers assess distances and speeds correctly.
At interchanges, it is also forbidden to construct any structures that could obstruct visibility or traffic safety. Safety distances must be adjusted according to the importance of the roads involved.
Anyone who violates these rules is subject to administrative fines and must restore the original condition at their own expense by removing any unauthorized structures or obstacles.
