Animal-drawn vehicles may be equipped with metal rims only under specific conditions related to the total weight of the vehicle. If the total mass when fully loaded does not exceed 6 tons, metal rims are allowed, but only if the weight is proportionate to the total width of the rims. This requirement ensures that the pressure on the road surface is not excessive and prevents damage to the road.
If these conditions are not met, the vehicle must be equipped with rubber tires, which better distribute the weight and reduce wear on the road surface.
Each metal rim must have a minimum width of 50 millimeters. The edges of the rim that come into contact with the road must be rounded, to avoid sharp edges that could damage the road or create safety risks. The rolling surface of the wheel must also be smooth and uniform, without protrusions or irregularities, ensuring stable movement.
Local authorities are responsible for checking the width of the rims and determining the maximum allowed mass for each animal-drawn vehicle used for transporting goods.
If a vehicle does not meet these technical requirements, it is not allowed to circulate normally and is subject to an administrative fine.
For the theory exam, it is important to remember that metal rims are allowed only under strict conditions, must meet specific width and shape requirements, and otherwise rubber wheels are mandatory.
